Kingdom Come is one of the greatest Elseworlds/What Ifs in the history of comic books, right up there with the Dark Knight and Age of Apocalypse. And who better to write the sequel to this amazing story than Geoff Johns and Alex Ross in the pages of Justice Society of America. Before the reboot post-Infinite Crisis, I thought the JSA was just the JLA for old people. Boy was I wrong. JSA is one of those series that I decided to pick up just because Geoff Johns was writing it, and that was an excellent decision on my part. Johns and Dave Eaglesham have consistently created an amazing comic book, despite the boringness of the Lightning Saga.
Thy Kingdom Come and One World, Under Gog itself is just a continuation of the quality work they have done. Kingdom Come Superman is a great addition to the team, far more interesting than the normal Superman. The idea of Gog being the last remnant of the Third World ties not only Justice Society and Kingdom Come together, but it also ties it in with the idea of the Fourth World and now the Fifth World, being created by Grant Morrison. Plus, this arc has seen some excellent character development almost all around, including Citizen Steel, Damage, Power Girl, Mr. Terrific, and Magog/Lance. There really is nothing to complain about. Plus, the artwork of Eaglesham, Ross, and Jerry Ordway is perfect for the book. I’m sad that Johns is leaving after #26, but at least he’ll get to have some fun with Black Adam first. I can’t wait to read #22, which is the only reason why I’m not reviewing it right now.
