I mentioned before that there were couple of series that I started reading because Geoff Johns was the writer. Justice Society of America was the first of those, and Booster Gold was the second. I had read all of 52, a.ka. the only good weekly comic book series ever, and Booster Gold’s plotlines had been really interesting. Put those two factors together, plus a recommendation from dear old Ed, meant that Booster Gold was an instant buy. The first year was a whirlwind of two arcs, leading to the resurrection and death of Ted Kord, the resurrection of Goldstar, and the revelation that Rip Hunter is Booster’s son. HUH?!
Anyway, the writers of this title have been cycling since Johns left, and it’s nice to see that Jurgens, who was and is also the artist, will be taking things up as the long-term writer. This new arc picks up on some of the topics of the last two, like the mysterious time traveler and the Egyptian knife from the museum, Elongated Man, and Chronos. The set-up is interesting, and it’s nice to see Ralph Dibny again not as a despondent, powerless head case or as a ghost. While it may not have as interesting an arc as Johns’ run, Jurgens has the right idea. Booster Gold is in good hands, with Jurgens handling both writing and art.
