I am sick and tired of alternate timelines in comic books. And Young X-Men has deliverd another one, where Emma Frost, Wolverine, Greymalkin, Anole, and two other unrevealed mutants are the only survivors, Ink’s a drooling vegetable, and Donald Pierce controls the world. LAME. This has been done TOO many times. The fact that three X-Men, Marvel Girl, Bishop, and Cable, plus dozens of other characters, come from alternate timelines or universes or futures shows that this is a plot device that needs to be temporarily retired. Especially in the X-franchise.
Oh yeah, and this issue is about as bad as the rest. Cipher is another insufferable new invention from Marc Guggenheim. And Dust, one of the best new X-characters in the last decade, is killed off. From what I can tell, it won’t be permanent, but still. Young X-Men kills as many characters as New X-Men did, but not as well. After all, what point was there behind killing Wolf Cub? I mean, really. The only interesting point is the Donald Pierce/Dust interaction, which has been one of the only good parts of the book ever. And Rafa Sandoval’s art is still nice, though it doesn’t entirely fit with the series. And Daniel Acuña’s art is marginally better than before. He still draws Emma’s face really strangely though. It’s no wonder this series is getting cancelled. It’s crap.
